Another week is here, and more movies roll in. Lots more live shows are needing scores, and I’ve now learned how to process them very well. I’ve also gotten really good at checking and finding mistakes in music. We always have to make sure that there are no mistakes at all in our scores and parts when they get sent to the recording session. Something like a missing page could be detrimental to any session, so I’ve been taught to check, double-check, triple-check, and keep checking as much as you have time for to make sure everything looks perfect! There are some really important things to make sure of, like the cue number and bar numbers. It gets tedious sometimes, but after catching a few things I know it’s a process that is really important to the process and to our whole office.
There are always a bunch of live shows going on all over the country, and I really wish some more would make their way to Columbus, because they’re all really cool! Like Indiana Jones, E.T., Home Alone, and many others! Also, a really cool one to go see would be Harry Potter live. I love Harry Potter so much that seeing it in concert would be beautiful. Especially seeing how many choral parts we had to print out, I knew that wherever this score was going it was going to be a really awesome show.
Recently, I’ve also had to take on some more responsibility in the office. One day both of my coworkers in the backroom had to go run out, and I was left alone manning the phones and backroom. Definitely nerve-wracking, but it was great that they trusted me enough to make sure things didn’t fall apart. I feel really good about all the progress I’ve been making and especially the tasks I’m now able to accomplish without having to ask my coworkers. Especially answering the phones, which I’ve now been able to learn about the people who call, how to forward it to other people, and in general better at engaging and talking with our clients.
